Gaborik, Wild Nearing Decision Time On Deal

Oct 16, 2014 10:42 PM

The Minnesota Wild and right wing Marian Gaborik are nearing decision time on whether or not they are going to extend their relationship, according to Associated Press. The team will likely either sign Gaborik to a long-term deal or trade him before they lose him in free agency next summer. "It'll become pretty clear pretty quickly," General Manager Doug Risebrough said. Gaborik's agent Ron Salcer is scheduled to travel to North Dakota early this week for a second face-to-face meeting with assistant GM Tom Lynn in continuation of their negotiations.

Rangers Mum On Shanahan

Aug 31, 2014 9:28 PM

The Rangers opened up training camp on Tuesday but apparently still haven't made a contract offer to free agent Brendan Shanahan, according to New York Post. There is no indication that the Rangers have either invited or will invite Shanahan to camp, and it is unclear whether or not Shanahan would accept such an offer. "Other teams have been offering me jobs, not tryouts," Shanahan said last week when asked if he would skate with the team without a contract. "I haven't spent much time thinking about that."

Wings Close To Signing Chelios, Quincey

Aug 31, 2014 5:52 PM

The Red Wings are close to signing Chris Chelios and Kyle Quincey to new contracts, according to Detroit Free Press. Quincey is expected to sign a two-year deal, while Chelios is likely to ink a one-year pact by next week. "We're close to a two-year deal with Quincey," general manager Ken Holland said. "With Darren .... because the CBA is down to the last year, bonuses that had the potential to be pushed out another year, that is not the case (this season). A player that's got a base salary and bonuses, that whole thing counts against your cap. Darren would like to get some bonuses - he knows he is going to be a low base; he'd like the potential to make a litlte bit more money if he plays up - I'm in no position to do that. He's waiting to hear if the union will extend the CBA. "Cheli, we've basically agreed. I met with him briefly at the golf tournament last Monday, and we've basically agreed on a one-year deal and when he gets into town, he'll sign it. We're going to do a deal with no bonuses. Cheli just wants to get on. Maybe Darren will come to that same mindset."

Shanahan Hoping To Re-Sign With Rangers

Aug 31, 2014 10:01 PM

Veteran Brendan Shanahan is hoping to re-sign with the Rangers, but the free agent wing has not been offered a contract by New York, according to Ottawa Citizen. Due to the lack of an offer, he is prepared to investigate other opportunities around the league. "That would obviously be a family conversation," Shanahan said of perhaps moving across the country to play. "But it's not like the kids are in high school." "My priority remains signing with the Rangers and finishing the job I came here to do two years ago. I've spoken with (head coach) Tom (Renney) and have told him that I'm willing to accept whatever role he thinks is best for the team." "I want to stay in New York because I believe I can contribute, but if that door closes, I'll have some other interesting options to consider."
